When discussing oil purification systems we need to first look at the contamination present in the oil. The two most prevalent contaminants are water and particulate. Our standard Termo-Vac oil purifiers can reduce moisture to below 20 PPM (<10 ppm in transformer oil) and particulate to below ISO 15/13/11 as per ISO 4406:99.

We should also consider other contaminants that might need to be addressed, such as varnish and acidity. Sometimes varnish can be reduced just by using a depth style filter media. More troublesome applications may require more aggressive electrostatic oil conditioning. Either of these solutions can be added to our Thermo-Vac oil purification systems. Typically, removing water will correct acidity in the oil. However, there may be a need for adsorption media. Be careful when employing adsorption media to lubricating and petroleum based hydraulic oils as additives can be effected.

picWe highly recommend a sound oil analysis program.  By studying your oil sample reports we are able to determine the best oil filtration system or oil purification system to employ. One way the High Purity Northwest is set apart from our competition is that we don’t employ a one size fits all solution. We customize the equipment to solve your specific problem. This has resulted in us designing several types of vacuum dehydrators, for instance, where most manufactures have just one design.

We recently took on a line of magnetic filters that we can use on the inlet of our oil purification system to remove ferrous material prior to any disposable media. By using a cleanable filter consumable filter costs are greatly reduced. This is most helpful in the automotive markets where oil is used in machining and customers want to employ oil recycling. Oil recycling not only saves thousands of dollars, but it is environmentally responsible. Oil typically does not go bad and in many cases can be brought back to better than new condition with the right equipment.
